Where is your sugar from? This is one of the first questions every rum producer is asked. But the answer is often far from simple. How is sugar bought and sold—and what can we do to bring awareness and support to those doing the hard work of sugar making? Who is really using their own sugar? How can we decipher our assumptions and the marketing messages for the reality of what is happening? We’ll address many of the questions behind the question where is your sugar from? and we’ll bring some answers to help us all demystify sugarcane.
